About the Volume Calculator

This calculator computes the volume of five common 3D shapes: cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, and rectangular prism. Select a shape, enter the required dimensions, and choose your preferred unit to get the volume in cubic units (cm³, m³, in³, or ft³) with the formula displayed.

The Formula

Cube: V = s³
Sphere: V = ⁴⁄₃πr³
Cylinder: V = πr²h
Cone: V = ⅓πr²h
Rectangular Prism: V = l × w × h

FAQs

How do I convert between cubic units?

1 m³ = 1,000,000 cm³, 1 ft³ = 1,728 in³, 1 m³ ≈ 35.3 ft³. The calculator shows results in all units for easy comparison.

What is the difference between volume and capacity?

Volume measures the total space an object occupies, while capacity typically refers to the internal volume available to hold a substance (like water in a cylinder). Both use the same cubic units.
