How to calculate tile needs manually (the formula)
Calculate the room area: Room Area = Length × Width (in sq ft). Calculate tile area: Tile Area = (Tile Width in inches ÷ 12) × (Tile Height in inches ÷ 12). Then: Tiles = Room Area ÷ Tile Area. Add waste: Total = ⌈Tiles × (1 + Waste% ÷ 100)⌉.
Example calculation
A 12 ft × 10 ft room has an area of 120 sq ft. Using 12 in × 12 in tiles: each tile covers 1 sq ft. 120 ÷ 1 = 120 tiles. With 10% waste: 120 × 1.10 = 132 tiles to buy.
