How to calculate pet age in human years manually (the formula)

Example calculation
A 6-year-old medium-sized dog: Year 1 = 15 human years, Year 2 = 9 (total 24), Years 3–6 = 4 × 4.5 = 18. Total = 15 + 9 + 18 = 42 human years. A 6-year-old cat: 15 + 9 + (4 × 4) = 40 human years.

- Using the 7:1 rule — The old rule is inaccurate. Modern formulas show pets age much faster in early years and slower later. A 2-year-old dog is about 24 human years, not 14.
