Bandwidth Calculator

Calculate transfer time, required speed, or data volume

About the Bandwidth Calculator

This bandwidth calculator helps you estimate file transfer times, required network speeds, or data volumes. Whether you are planning a large data migration, testing network performance, or simply curious how long a download will take, this tool provides quick and accurate results.

The Formula

Transfer Time = File Size / Bandwidth  |  Bandwidth = File Size / Time

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my actual transfer speed differ from the calculated value?

Real-world speeds are affected by network overhead, latency, congestion, and protocol limitations (TCP/IP overhead, encryption, etc.). The calculated value assumes ideal conditions with no overhead or interference.

What is the difference between bits and bytes?

Network speeds are typically measured in bits per second (bps), while file sizes are measured in bytes (B). There are 8 bits in 1 byte, so a 100 Mbps connection can theoretically transfer 12.5 MB/s. Our calculator handles this conversion automatically.
