How to calculate age manually (the formula)
To calculate age manually, subtract the birth date from the target date. First, compute the year difference: target year minus birth year. If the result is negative, borrow days from the previous month (using the actual number of days in that month) and subtract one month. Common mistakes
- Forgetting to adjust for month/day order — If the target month is before the birth month, you must subtract one year and add 12 months. Simply subtracting years directly gives the wrong age.
